About CRANIOFACIALidentification.com
CRANIOFACIALidentification.com was first launched in 2007 as a platform for sharing data resources in superimposition and facial approximation.
The website is the product of >17 years of ongoing research and development efforts of the CN Stephan and his team in craniofacial identification and forensic anthropology.
The website title, CRANIOFACIALidentification.com, has "identification" in lowercase to purposefully recognize and emphasize the limits of the methods, especially in regards to facial approximations. That is, craniofacial identification methods contribute to the identification process as indespensible investigative methods that act as a vechile for biological identification. That is, in many/some cases, they are not responsible for the also critical confirmation of a persons identity (which is obtained via other methods).
These methods tend to be deployed for the most difficult to resolve skeletal cases, where other methods such as DNA, dental records and fingerprints are not possible. They thereby provide the special capacity to resussitate or "jump-start" dead-end cases.
CRANIOFACIALidentification.com is the only free public interface for the C-Table, a repository of anonymous raw facial soft tissue thickness (FSTT) of previously published studies generously contributed by practitioners from across the globe.
As the only collated and internationally available FSTT data store, the C-Table data serve as indespensible independent validation samples for newly derived or proposed FSTT estimators.
This website additionally aims to provde researchers, practitioners, students and artists with up-to-date and comprehensive resources in the craniofacial identification , including the latest computer scripts and code released in association with various scientific outputs, including Stephan et al. publications.
CRANIOFACIALidentification.com is managed by CN Stephan, who is team leader at The Laboratory of Human Craniofacial and Skeletal Idenitification (HuCS-ID Lab) at the University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia.
